Our History

Established by Clark Hale in 1967

Clark Hale's vision was a Boy Scout troop centered on developing young men into leaders of high moral character - and to do so by challenging them in outdoor adventures.

Troop 276 has always exemplified a commitment to excellence, each scout seeking to live the scout ideals as well as becoming accomplished outdoorsmen. The Eagle award is a by-product of this active and enthusiastic participation.

The 276 scouts backpack in full “Class A” uniform —including the ubiquitous campaign hats and red “fanny” pack that carries the ten essentials. They are always with older scouts who care for the welfare of the younger scouts. The 276 scouts seek adventure, and are comfortable living  in the wilderness, sleeping under the stars without tents while practicing the tenets of “Leave No Trace”. They are stewards of the outdoors and hold to the ideal of the wilderness as sacred.

Senior scouts develop into skilled leaders that lead by example. Hiking in the wilderness is not only fun and physically challenging, but it requires succeeding in a simple environment. Scouts are faced with the basics of life—eating, drinking, keeping warm while being tasked with a mission—while they hike to a destination making sure to all arrive together, in good shape and to appreciate the outdoors.
